"My daughter needing support"

About: Sligo/Leitrim Mental Health Services / Early Intervention Youth Mental Health Service

(as a parent/guardian),

My daughter was feeling overwhelmed and unable to cope with secondary school. She had been reviewed by CAHMS few years before that and on medication for anxiety and depression. After some time being discharged from CAHMS she wanted to try come off her medication and in so found herself struggling again.

After obtaining advice about The family resource centre she began seeing a counsellor there. It was a very efficient service without hesitation in seeing her or delay and also willing to accommodate seeing her around school hours. It was confidential and my daughter felt listened too and safe. She got great advice, support, direction, guidance and lots of information as well as an opportunity for follow up. We were delighted to have this service and its top class as well as the amazing team of people working and involved there. I feel lucky we were able to use/ have it.

Many thanks to all the team at Ballymote Resource Centre. My daughter feels more confident, more control over herself and has successfully come off her medication.

I meet with service users and sometimes with their families. I assess psychological problems and provide psychological interventions in an effort to help service users overcome their difficulties.

Dear Willowlol,

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience here on Care Opinion. The service you attended with Maura in Ballymote Family Resource Centre is delivered by the local HSE Early Intervention Youth Mental Health Service alongside Ballymote Family Resource Centre. It is a brief-intervention service which currently provides a listening ear, advice and support to young people (between 12-25 years) living in the areas of Ballymote, Sooey, Riverstown, Geevagh, Castlebaldwin, Cloonloo, Gurteen, Sligo side of Ballyfarnon.

I am so pleased that your daughter's experience attending the service was a positive one where you got the support, advice and guidance she was seeking. It is also great a space was provided where she felt safe and listened too.

Thank you again for sharing. I know Maura will be delighted to hear that the great work she is doing is having a positive impact on the lives of those she is supporting.

Best wishes,

Joanne
